Service

The constant challenge in this life is to put faith into action. Service is key to Christian living. As individuals and as a congregation, we seek to serve the good purposes of God revealed to us in the life and teachings of Jesus. In short, we seek to serve in the good name of Jesus and share good will in our community. In the 1970’s, the congregation became concerned about senior housing for the poor. After a community study was completed, we applied for a grant from HUD to build a building for senior living. Thus, Heritage Towers of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) was born. In 1979, a building was completed beside Big Goose Creek, and residents moved into their new home in 1980. Today, we serve 75 homes at Heritage Towers. We are one of the few Churches in the state of Wyoming to be involved in this form of housing ministry, and, we are grateful for our competent staff to carry out this good work in our community. Currently, we serve at Lunch Together/Soup Kitchen, providing a week of meals to anyone who is hungry or looking for friendship. Lunch Together is an ecumenical ministry of eight congregations and one service group serving lunch five days a week. The goal is to make sure no one goes hungry in Sheridan County. We also operate a Thrift Store. The Thrift Store keeps us busy, sorting, repairing, and selling products donated by the community for resale. It’s a challenging ministry, but a lot of fun! We also help raise money for the Community Homeless Shelter through Volunteers of America and other community based ministries that do good work for others. Finally, we work ecumenically and interfaith through the Wyoming Interfaith Network. We cannot do this work alone. We are blessed to share faithful friendship with many people and receive God’s blessings too. Come join the fun of serving.
